Originally built as a private residence in 1750, the hall has developed into a bistro, hotel, photo studio and gallery. Preservation Hall was created to preserve and commemorate New Orleans jazz, which has lost much of its popularity in modern jazz and rock music. The hall's founders, Allan and Sandra Jaffe, wanted a place where New Orleans musicians could play New Orleans jazz, and they thought the style should not disappear. On any given night, the hall is packed with people eager to hear New Orleans jazz played by veteran musicians of the 70s and 80s learning and embracing one of the world's most unique music legacies.
